Sue Shakespeare’s 100km Ultra Challenge

in aid of macmillan cancer support

“This year I have decided to take on not one but two enormous walking challenges to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan have supported so many of my friends and family members. They offer a range from emotional, physical and financial support to the entire family. I would like to ensure that they can continue to do this vital work. Both these 100km (62 miles) walks are continuous, so I am allowed to stop long enough to change socks, and to eat quickly at the rest stops, but other than that it is left foot right foot and repeat all the way to the finish line. These events are “just the best!!”, very, very hard work, but such fun!!! So far in training I have covered almost 900 miles, and are right on target with my training plan.

SO……..!

On June 10th I step out on the Lake District Ultra Challenge. This is a continuous 100km hike in a loop from Kendal, returning to the finish line back in Kendal. I anticipate that this will take me somewhere between 26-28 hours. There are some tough hill to negotiate, but the view from the top will be wonderful and worth the climb.

Then on 9th September I am taking part in the Thames Path Challenge, which is contrast to the hills of the Lake District will be primarily flat as it follow the Thames from Putney Bridge to Henley. I am looking forward to seeing all the historical buildings that flank the Thames.

If you are able to support I would be so grateful. Thank you.”
